Cincinnati Junior Academy

About Us

Thank you for your interest in Cincinnati Junior Academy as a school for your child. CJA is part of a much wider global Adventist Education System with almost 7000 school world wide.

CJA  itself, is a small Christian school where your child will be in a multi-grade classroom with a relaxed and welcoming family atmosphere. Multi-grade classrooms support the social and emotional development of students. Behavior problems are minimized because older children know the rules and can model for younger children. Children learn to get along with others of various ages.

Multi-grade classrooms also support children’s academic development. The wide range of skills and abilities in a multi-grade classroom necessitates a more individualized approach to education. The curriculum is open-ended and adaptable. Children develop skills according to their own pace and timing. Each child learns without measuring themselves against other students of their own age. In this environment it is very easy for the teachers to meet either the remedial or accelerated needs of individual children.

The teacher-to-student ratio is excellent. A classroom with over 13 students will have two instructors.  And total class size will not exceed 25.

Math is the only class taught by grade level because skills must be taught more sequentially than other subjects. In the lower grades classroom your child will be privileged to have two teachers working together at all times to ensure each child receives maximum individualized attention.

CJA also has a higher computer-to-child ratio than most elementary schools, public or private.  This means that from the start, your child will get maximum opportunity for daily computer use in the classroom.

Before and after school care is available on site from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.  This service is offered at a nominal charge through an licensed, accredited, day-care facility on site.  If you have a pre-school age child this would provide a single geographic location to provide care for all of your children.

Christian Education

Our faith centers around Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  In knowing God, true knowledge and development of self can take place.  Our belief is that true education prepares the student for this life and eternal life with Jesus Christ.

The Christ-centered curriculum offered at Cincinnati Junior Academy (CJA) strives to develop the full potential of each student by focusing on each student's academic, spiritual, physical, and social growth.  It is our belief that parents have a tremendous responsibility to provide quality education for their children.  Thus, we have committed ourselves to working with parents to ensure their child's success.

The School

Since CJA opened its doors in 1925, hundreds of students have graduated from the academy and have succeeded in meeting the demands of higher education.  Many of our graduates send their children to CJA to benefit from the same academically challenging and Christian environment.  In addition, class sizes are kept small to allow teachers to spend more individual time with students and to allow for greater student involvement.

As a multi-cultural school, CJA seeks to maintain the richness of diversity among its student population.  Any student, regardless of faith or background, will be considered for admission.

Our History

In 1925, members of the Clifton Seventh-day Adventist Church committed themselves to providing Christian education for their children.  This commitment manifested itself in the form of Cincinnati Junior Academy, a school for the Christ-centered instruction of Seventh-day Adventist children in grades 1-8.

Originally located on William Howard Taft, CJA soon became known for its quality Christian education.  As the school grew, so did interest from the surrounding community.  Any parent who had an interest in providing a Christian education for his or her child, regardless of their church affiliation, was welcomed to enroll his or her child at CJA.

By the 1960's, enrollment in CJA had increased to such a degree that a new school needed to be built.  In 1969, CJA moved to its new location on Clifton Avenue, where it stands today still providing quality, Christian education for children in grades K-8 throughout the Greater Cincinnati Area.

Reading may be taught in two, three or four different groups. Writing is usually taught to the whole class at once, with different expectations for different ages. For instance, everyone may write on the same topic, with 1st graders writing a few words or sentences and drawing a picture, while 2nd graders write a paragraph or two.
